Kingshurst Automotive Ltd proud sponsors of the tyres for a locally operated Nostalgia Drag racing slingshot are delighted with the success's already achieved by the team.
Returning the original Dragster known as "Cheap Thrills" to its former glory of some 20years ago, the team Called "Ratchet Strap Racing" are based in Tamworth and is made up of 3 main owner operators plus a good support crew.
The main crew
Alan "Skippy" Skip, Steve Brindley, John "JJ" Johnston, along with Nicola Thraives and Ford Skip, ( its junior TOT ROD driver) are the main crew.
Racing in the Nostalgia Slingshot class with the "Wild Bunch" Nostalgia race club, the team have managed some great results in the past 3 years.
In year 1 they came overall 12th in the Wild bunch points challenge. Year 2 they came 10th, and are this year looking to be placed in the mid top ten.
Not bad considering there can be up to between 22-50 Wild Bunch teams racing at any given event.
The cheap thrills
The "Cheap Thrills" (perhaps not so Cheap at times) Runs a 460 big block Ford motor, with a few modifications of course, and is built by the crew themselves, a 3 speed C6 auto gearbox with shift kit, and 8" spooled Ford rear differential. and of course the huge rear 31 inch racing slicks supplied by K.A. At this stage it is a normally asperated engine running on normal fuel and Octane Booster additives.
Originally built to chase 11-12 second quarter mile runs at both Shakespeare County race way and Santa Pod Drag strip, they have now surprised a few of the onlookers by getting the car into the 9 second Quarter mile bracket, and at the Santa Pod Redline Rumble event early in August actually got their first 1st place win, earning them the full 11 race points on the weekend, with a 9.85 second average.
The team would like to express their thanks
They have also had some close 3rds and 4th positions, with car running a 9.66 second quarter which they are hoping to improve upon at the Santa Pod Hot Rod Drags in September.
We wish them every success stated Chris Kisby Managing Director of Kingshurst Automotive. Ford approved Garage, and are delighted to help the team.
The team would like to express their thanks to Chris & Caroline Kisby for their support and the sponsorship of the Race tyres, that they know have made quite a difference to "Cheap Thrills" performances.
